First Time We Met
I moved to the UK in 2023, and he had been here since 2022. At the time, we were living our separate lives, with no idea that a simple favour would bring us together.
One day, a colleague of mine had a catering job at a wedding and needed help delivering food. She asked a friend for help, but he couldn’t make it. Not wanting to cancel, he reached out to his own friend to step in at the last minute — and that friend turned out to be the man I would one day marry.
I decided to go along with my colleague. When he arrived to pick us up, neither of us knew that this short journey would change our lives forever. We drove to the wedding venue, only to realise it was strictly by invitation. Although no one asked us to leave, we felt it wasn’t meant for us, so we asked him to take us back home.
On the drive back, something quietly beautiful happened. Sitting in the back seat, I didn’t notice it at first, but my colleague did — he kept glancing at me through the rear-view mirror. A spark had been lit. She playfully asked if he was single, and when he said yes, she laughed and joked that I worked too hard and needed a man in my life.
Later that day, she shared my number and picture with him. He dropped me off at home, and two days later, my phone rang. A simple message turned into conversations, conversations turned into love, and love brought us here today.
What began as a missed wedding invitation became the start of our forever — and today, we are celebrating the most beautiful journey of all: ours.
